Hira Bhana & Co Ltd is located on the outskirts of Pukekohe, a rural farming area south of Auckland well known for its fertile volcanic ash soil and rich vegetable growing history.
Established in 1958, the business is run by second and third generation family members and produces the highest quality potatoes, onions, carrots, pumpkins, cabbage, cauliflower and lettuce each year. Their cropping area spans over approximately 600ha (1,500 acres) and is spread over several other farms in the neighbouring areas of Tuakau, Harrisville, Buckland and Onewhero.
The home farm accommodates the company’s offices as well as facilities for cooling, storage, processing and washing all of the crops. A fully equipped on-site engineering shop, which maintains plant and equipment also has the ability to custom build specialised machinery which is staffed by two full time engineers. Two full time mechanics are also on hand to service the large fleet of farm vehicle and equipment.
All of the farms employ the latest harvesting, planting, ground preparation and spraying techniques, including GPS technology, which is used for planting and drilling. Cropping responsibly and sustainably is an important part of the company’s philosophy… see the Sustainability and Accreditation pages for more information.
Hira Bhana has also invested in their own transport fleet, including a refrigerated truck, so has the ability to deliver produce in its best possible condition, when and where its required by their customers.
