Pukekohe’s soil and climate are perfect for onion growing and the area is famous for its brown onions, in particular the Pukekohe Long Keeper variety which has a very long shelf life. The brown varietes grown at Hira Bhana are full flavoured with a mild aftertaste and when cooked turn a rich brown colour which gives a very sweet taste.
